Equipment

  • Blender – 1 (for blending the papaya and water)
  • Knife – 1 (for chopping the papaya)
  • Cutting Board – 1 (for chopping the papaya)
  • Measuring spoons – 1 set (for measuring the sugar and lime juice)
  • Strainer (optional) – 1 (if you prefer to strain the pulp)
  • Serving Glasses – 4 (for serving the drink)
  • Ice Cube Tray (optional) – 1 (if you want to add ice to chill)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups about half of a medium papaya – Papaya, peeled and chopped
  • 4 cups – Cold water
  • 1 –2 tablespoons – Sugar adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon – Fresh lime juice
  • Ice cubes – As needed for serving (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Papaya: Peel and chop the papaya into small chunks.
  • Blend the Ingredients: Add the chopped papaya and 4 cups of cold water into a blender.
    Blend until smooth and creamy.
  • Sweeten and Add Lime: Add 1–2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 tablespoon of lime juice to the blender.
Blend again until fully combined. Taste and adjust sweetness or lime juice as needed.
  • Strain (Optional): If you prefer a smoother drink, strain the mixture using a fine mesh sieve to remove the pulp.
    This step is optional.
  • Serve: Pour the Papaya Agua Fresca into glasses over ice cubes for a refreshing, chilled drink.
Garnish with a lime wedge or papaya slice if desired.

Notes

  • Sweetness Variations: Adjust the sugar based on the ripeness of your papaya. If the papaya is very sweet, you may need less sugar.
  • Herbal Twist: For an added twist, blend in a few fresh mint or basil leaves to complement the papaya’s natural sweetness.
  • Storage: This drink can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2–3 days. Just stir before serving as the ingredients may separate over time.
  • Frozen Papaya Option: You can use frozen papaya instead of fresh if you want an even colder, thicker texture.
