  • 1 medium cucumber peeled and grated
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill chopped, or mint if preferred
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cucumber: Peel and grate the cucumber.
Place it in a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth and press out any excess moisture.
  • Mix Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt and the grated cucumber.
    Stir until evenly mixed.
  • Add Flavorings: Add the minced garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and chopped dill (or mint) to the bowl.
    Stir until well combined.
  • Season: Add salt and black pepper to taste.
Mix everything thoroughly and adjust seasoning as needed.
  • Chill: Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve: Serve chilled with your favorite Mediterranean dishes or as a dip for pita bread and vegetables.

Notes

  • Texture Tip: Ensure you remove as much moisture as possible from the cucumber. This keeps the sauce thick and creamy.
  • Flavor Adjustment: If you prefer a stronger garlic flavor, feel free to add an extra clove of garlic.
  • Herb Variations: Fresh dill is traditional, but you can experiment with fresh mint or parsley for different flavor profiles.
  • Storage: Tzatziki should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-5 days. It’s best served chilled.
