Equipment

  • 1 Air fryer
  • 2 Shallow bowls (for dredging and egg wash)
  • 1 Small bowl (for mixing seasonings)
  • 1 Paper towel (for drying calamari)
  • 1 Spray bottle (for olive oil)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Calamari Rings fresh or frozen
  • ½ cup All-purpose Flour
  • 2 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1 Large Egg
  • Olive Oil Spray for coating
  • 2 Lemon Wedges for serving
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Parsley chopped, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Calamari

  • If using frozen calamari, thaw completely and pat dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.

Prepare the Breading Mixture

  • In a shallow bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, garlic powder, oregano, and paprika.
    Mix well.

Dredge the Calamari

  • In a separate shallow bowl, beat the egg.
Dip each calamari ring into the egg, ensuring it’s fully coated, then dredge it in the seasoned flour mixture. Press gently to coat evenly.

Preheat the Air Fryer

  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for a few minutes.

Arrange the Calamari in the Air Fryer Basket

  • Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil.
Arrange the breaded calamari rings in a single layer in the basket. Do not overcrowd for best results.

Air Fry the Calamari

  • Air fry the calamari at 375°F for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time.
The calamari should be golden brown and crispy.

Serve

  • Serve the calamari immediately with fresh lemon wedges and chopped parsley for garnish.
Pair with tzatziki sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Fresh or Frozen Calamari: Both fresh and frozen calamari work well for this recipe. Just make sure to dry them thoroughly to avoid sogginess.
  • Air Fryer Variations: Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer model. Always check the calamari halfway through to ensure they don't overcook.
  • Flour Alternatives: You can use whole wheat flour or gluten-free flour as a substitute for all-purpose flour if you have dietary preferences.
  • Serving Ideas: Serve the calamari with a side of Greek Salad, Tzatziki Sauce, or Roasted Vegetables for a complete Mediterranean meal.
