  • 8 oz 227g feta cheese (block or crumbled)
  • 1/2 cup 120ml extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons dried oregano or fresh if preferred
  • 2 cloves garlic minced or thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional, for spice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest optional, for added zest
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Feta: Cut the feta cheese into blocks or cubes, or crumble it if using crumbled feta.
  • Prepare the Marinade: In a small bowl or jar, combine olive oil, dried oregano, minced garlic, lemon juice, red pepper flakes (if using), lemon zest (if using), and a pinch of salt and pepper.
Stir or shake well to mix all the ingredients together.
  • Marinate the Feta: Place the cut feta into a glass jar or airtight container.
Pour the marinade over the feta, ensuring the cheese is completely submerged.
  • Refrigerate: Cover the jar or container and refrigerate for at least 4 hours,
but preferably 24 to 48 hours for the best flavor infusion.
  • Serve: Once marinated, the feta is ready to use. Serve it as a topping for salads, pasta dishes, or enjoy with bread or crackers.

Notes

  • Marination Time: For optimal flavor, allow the feta to marinate for 24 to 48 hours. However, you can enjoy it after just a few hours if you’re short on time.
  • Storing: Keep marinated feta in the refrigerator for up to one week. Ensure the feta remains submerged in the marinade to preserve its freshness.
  • Customization: Feel free to experiment with other herbs or add-ins such as rosemary, thyme, or even chili oil for extra spice.
