Ingredients
  

  • 3 –4 medium sweet potatoes about 2 pounds
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons maple syrup adjust to taste
  • teaspoons ground cinnamon adjust to taste
  • 3 –4 tablespoons milk or half-and-half

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Sweet Potatoes: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    While the oven is heating, carefully wash each sweet potato under running water, scrubbing off any dirt or blemishes.
    Pat them dry with a clean towel.
    Using a fork, pierce each sweet potato several times on all sides—this allows steam to escape during baking and prevents bursting.
  • Bake Until Tender: Place the prepared sweet potatoes on a baking sheet, ensuring they’re spaced evenly and not touching.
    Bake in the preheated oven for about 45–60 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are completely tender when pierced with a fork.
    Baking time may vary slightly depending on the size of the potatoes.
    You want them soft enough that a fork slides through easily without resistance.
  • Cool and Peel: Once baked, remove the sweet potatoes from the oven and allow them to cool for 5–10 minutes.
    This step is important for safe handling and easier peeling. After cooling slightly, gently peel off the skin using your fingers or a small paring knife.
    The flesh should be soft and bright orange, ready for mashing.
  • Mash the Sweet Potatoes: Transfer the peeled sweet potatoes to a large mixing bowl. Add ¼ teaspoon of salt to enhance their natural flavor.

  • Taste and Final Adjustments: Taste the mashed sweet potatoes and adjust seasoning if needed.
    Add a pinch more salt, a dash of cinnamon, or an extra drizzle of maple syrup to suit your personal preference.
    This step ensures your mash is perfectly balanced in flavor and sweetness.
  • Serve or Store: Transfer the finished mashed sweet potatoes to a serving dish, smoothing the top with a spatula for an attractive presentation.
