Equipment

  • 1 Baking sheet (lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil)
  • 1 small bowl (for seasoning mix)
  • 1 Large mixing bowl (for tossing wedges)
  • 1 Knife (for cutting sweet potatoes)
  • 1 Cutting Board

Ingredients

  • 3 medium sweet potatoes about 1 ½ pounds
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 ½ teaspoons chipotle powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch optional, for extra crispiness

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Wash and scrub the sweet potatoes thoroughly. Peel if preferred, or leave the skin on for added texture.
  • Cut the sweet potatoes into evenly sized wedges, about ½ inch thick.
  • In a small bowl, mix together chipotle powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cornstarch (if using).
  • Place the sweet potato wedges into a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and toss to coat.
  • Sprinkle the seasoning mix over the wedges and toss again until evenly coated.
  • Spread the wedges out in a single layer on a lined baking sheet, making sure they aren’t overcrowded.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Flip the wedges halfway through cooking.
  • Continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and crispy.
  • Remove from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!

Notes

  • To ensure crispy wedges, make sure the sweet potatoes are evenly cut and not overcrowded on the baking sheet.
  • For extra crispiness, soak the sweet potato wedges in cold water for 30 minutes before baking, then pat dry.
  • Adjust the level of spiciness by adding more or less chipotle powder, depending on your taste.
  • Feel free to experiment with different seasoning blends, such as adding cumin or chili powder for extra depth.
  • These wedges can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for best results.
