Equipment

  • Toaster or toaster oven (1 unit)
  • Knife: 1 unit
  • Fork (1 unit)
  • Bowl (1 unit)
  • Spoon or butter knife (1 unit)

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 2 slices of bread sourdough, whole wheat, or gluten-free
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice optional
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Additional toppings optional: poached egg, tomatoes, feta cheese, chili flakes, or bacon

Instructions

  • Toast the bread: Start by toasting your bread to your desired crispiness.
You can use a toaster, toaster oven, or skillet.
The toast should be golden brown and firm, but not too hard.
  • Prepare the avocado: Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh into a bowl.
Mash the avocado with a fork until it’s mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
  • Season the avocado: Add a pinch of salt and pepper to the mashed avocado.
If you prefer, squeeze in some lemon juice to enhance the flavor and prevent browning.
  • Assemble the toast: Spread the mashed avocado generously over each slice of toasted bread.
Use a spoon or butter knife to evenly cover the surface.
  • Add toppings (optional): If you want to get creative, add a poached egg, sliced tomatoes, crumbled feta, chili flakes, or any other toppings of your choice.
  • Serve: Enjoy your avocado toast immediately while the bread is crispy and the avocado is fresh.

Notes

  • Use ripe avocados: Make sure your avocados are ripe for the best flavor and texture. They should yield slightly when you press them gently.
  • Customization: Feel free to customize your avocado toast with your favorite toppings or seasonings, like garlic powder or hot sauce.
  • Storage: Avocado toast is best enjoyed fresh. However, if you want to store mashed avocado for later, keep it in an airtight container with some lemon juice to prevent browning. You can store it for up to 24 hours in the fridge.
  • Gluten-free option: If you follow a gluten-free diet, simply swap out regular bread for gluten-free bread.
