Air Fryer Pozole Bites are a crispy, healthier alternative to traditional pozole, bringing the flavors of the Mexican classic into a bite-sized snack. Made with hominy, masa harina, and a blend of spices, these golden treats are cooked in the air fryer for a guilt-free crispy texture. Perfect for any gathering or as a quick snack, they can be served with traditional garnishes and dipping sauces for an elevated flavor experience.
In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked hominy with masa harina, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Add in shredded cooked chicken or pork (if using). Mix well until the mixture holds together like dough.
Form the Pozole Bites
Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into 1-2 inch balls, or shape them into small patties, ensuring they are compact enough to hold together.
Preheat the Air Fryer
Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes.
Cook the Pozole Bites
Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil or cooking spray. Arrange the pozole bites in a single layer inside the basket, leaving space between each one. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
Serve and Garnish
Once done, remove the pozole bites from the air fryer and let them cool slightly. Serve with shredded cabbage, radishes, lime wedges, and a drizzle of Mexican crema or sour cream for extra flavor.
Notes
Freezing: To freeze, place the formed pozole bites on a baking sheet and freeze for 1-2 hours. Once frozen, transfer them to a zip-top bag or airtight container and store for up to 3 months. To cook from frozen, air fry at 375°F for 15-18 minutes.
Meat Substitutes: You can easily omit the meat for a vegetarian option or use plant-based alternatives like tempeh or tofu.
Adjust Spice: If you like your pozole bites spicier, increase the amount of chili powder or add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the mix.
Customizing Flavors: Feel free to experiment with additional spices like smoked paprika or oregano for a unique twist.
