Instructions
Prepare the Filling:
In a skillet, cook your choice of protein (chicken, beef, or beans) with seasonings (cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper). If using chicken, shred it after cooking. Let the filling cool slightly.
Warm the Tortillas:
Lightly heat tortillas in a microwave or on a skillet for 10-20 seconds to make them more pliable and prevent cracking.
Assemble the Flautas:
Place about 2-3 tablespoons of the filling in the center of each tortilla. Sprinkle with cheese. Roll up the tortillas tightly, securing the edges.
Prepare for Air Frying:
Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the rolled flautas in the basket in a single layer. Lightly spray the tops of the flautas with cooking spray.
Air Fry the Flautas:
Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Air fry for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden and crispy.
Serve:
Serve hot with sour cream, salsa, and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro. Enjoy!
Notes
Storage: Leftover flautas can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. They can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
Freezing: To freeze, place the assembled but uncooked flautas on a baking sheet, freeze them individually, and then transfer to a freezer-safe bag. Air fry directly from frozen for 12-14 minutes.
Cheese: Feel free to use your favorite cheese blend. Adding some queso fresco or crumbled cotija on top before serving can add an extra layer of flavor.
Gluten-Free Option: Simply use gluten-free tortillas for a completely gluten-free meal.
